The Jungle Books
Pathé and the BBC announced that they are to put into production a major comedy adventure film inspired by Rudyard Kipling's classic "The Jungle Books". Preparation for the $50m film will start in September 2007. The film will be directed by John Downer (PRIDE), a distinguished veteran of the BBC's multi-award winning natural history documentary team. The script is by Kurti & Doyle (ROBIN HOOD).
Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo, Kaa and Shere Khan. Famous names from one of the most popular books of the 20th century and best known from Disney’s classic animation. They are about to star again in this fresh adaptation of Kipling’s Jungle Classic which shows these well-loved characters in a surprising and enchanting new light.
Building on the success of Pride, this new film returns to the original jungle books to tell this story of a young boy’s coming-of-age among the forest animals. In Pride, the narrative emerged from the drama of the African plains. This time, thanks to Kipling, our starting point is one of the greatest stories ever told. The same filming techniques will be enhanced and perfected for this epic tale set in the Indian jungle.
For the first time, we will actually experience the real Jungle Books, with real locations and living animals, in the way that Kipling imagined them.
